Common cold - The common cold (also known as "acute nasopharyngitis") is a mild viral infectious disease of the nose and throat; the upper respiratory system. Symptoms include sneezing, sniffling, running/blocked nose (often these occur simultaneously, or in only one nostril); scratchy, sore, or phlegmy throat; coughing; headache; and tiredness.
Common Cold Unit - In Britain, the Common Cold Unit (CCU) was set up by the civilian Medical Research Council (MRC) in 1946 on the site of a former military hospital, the Harvard Hospital, at Harnham Down near Salisbury in Wiltshire. Its aim was to undertake laboratory and epidemiological research on the common cold, with a view to reducing its human and economic costs; common colds account for a third of all acute respiratory infections and the economic costs are substantial in terms of days off work.
Glycogen storage disease type I - Glycogen storage disease type I or von Gierke's disease, is the most common of the glycogen storage diseases. This genetic disease results from deficiency of the enzyme glucose-6-phosphatase.
Occupational disease - An occupational disease is any recognized chronic ailment that is known to occur in a given body of workers in a given industry at a rate far higher than occurs in the general population, and includes diseases that are only known among workers in a given industry and no-where else (such as Black Lung Disease among coal miners). It excludes occupational hazards that are of a traumatic nature that are common in an industry (such as falls by roofers).
