Asthma Disease Human Respiratory

Asthma - Asthma is a disease of the human respiratory system in which the airways narrow, often in response to a “trigger” such as exposure to an allergen, cold air, exercise, or emotional stress. This narrowing causes symptoms such as wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and coughing, which are the hallmarks of asthma.

Human respiratory syncytial virus - Human respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is the name of the human pneumovirus. It is a negative single-stranded RNA virus of the family Paramyxoviridae, subfamily Pneumovirinae.

Metered dose inhaler - A metered dose inhaler (MDI) is a device that helps deliver a specific amount of medication to the lungs. It is commonly used to treat asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and other respiratory problems.

Diphtheritic stomatitis - Diphtheritic stomatitis is a recently discovered disease and has thus far been reported only in Yellow-eyed penguins (Megadyptes antipodes). Its symptoms are similar to human diphtheria and is characterized by infecteous lesions in the mouth area that impede swallowing and cause respiratory troubles.

Mucus Hypersecretion in Respiratory Disease-Novartis Foundation Symposium by Novartis Foundation Symposium,
A number of chronic respiratory diseases including chronic bronchitis, asthma, cystic fibrosis asthma disease human respiratory and bronchiectasis are characterized by mucus hypersecretion. Following damage to the airway epithelium, a repair process of dedifferentiation, regenerative proliferation asthma disease human respiratory and redifferentiation takes place that is invariably accompanied by mucus hypersecretion as a key element in the host defence mechanism. In chronic respiratory diseases, however, excessive mucus production leads to a pathological state with increased risk of infection, hospitalization asthma disease human respiratory and morbidity. An understanding of the mechanisms that underlie asthma disease human respiratory and maintain this hypersecretory phenotype is therefore crucial for the development of rational approaches to therapy. Despite a high asthma disease human respiratory and increasing prevalence asthma disease human respiratory and cost to healthcare services asthma disease human respiratory and society, mucus hypersecretion in chronic respiratory disease has received little attention until recently, probably because of the difficulties inherent in studying this pathology. Only in the last few years have some of the genes involved in mucus secretion been characterized. The recent availability of genomic sequence information asthma disease human respiratory and specific antibodies has led to an explosion of interest in this area making this publication particularly timely. This book draws together contributions from an international asthma disease human respiratory and interdisciplinary group of experts, whose work is focused on both basic asthma disease human respiratory and clinical aspects of the problem. Coverage includes epidemiology, airways infection asthma disease human respiratory and mucus hypersecretion, the genetics asthma disease human respiratory and regulation of mucus production, models of mucus hypersecretion, asthma disease human respiratory and the implications of new knowledge for the development of novel therapies.

The Global Epidermiology of Noncommunicable Diseases: The Epidemiology and Burdens of Cancers, Cardiovascular Diseases, Diabetes Mellitus, Respiratory by Christopher J. L. Murray,
Over fifty percent of all deaths worldwide are from noncommunicable diseases. The results of the Global Burden of Disease Study dispel the notions that these noncommunicable diseases are related to affluence. In all developing regions, except for India asthma disease human respiratory and Sub-Saharan Africa, noncommunicable diseases are responsible for more deaths than infectious diseases. Deaths from noncommunicable diseases have been projected to climb from 28.1 million deaths in 1990 to 49.7 million in 2020, increasing as a proportion of all deaths from 55 percent in 1990 to 73 percent in 2020. This volume provides comprehensive data asthma disease human respiratory and detailed discussions of the epidemiologies of all major cancers asthma disease human respiratory and cardiovascular conditions, as well as those of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, asthma, ulcers, diabetes, nephritis, cirrhosis, asthma disease human respiratory and appendicitis.
